Are you trying to change the field type on the fly within a predefined query or am I reading your question wrong?

I have about 200 queries that need to have the field type of 2 computed fieds to General Number versus the default: text.

Is there a way to do this programmically? Can I specify the query, the name of the field and specify the type as General Number?
